Welcome to Ms. Maxwell's Dance Class!
Welcome to Ms. Maxwell's Dance Class! You can use my website to help you find general information about my class and myself. All other information, such as assignments and due dates for this year can be found in your Google Classroom page. Please check your email for an invitation to the appropriate Google Classroom class. Parents can also be added to their child's Google classroom account.
We will be studying a variety of topics this year following the NC Essential Standards in Dance with an emphasis on an IB focus. Be prepared to learn about a dancer's health and wellness, the dance elements, various cultural dances, dance history, dance related careers, famous choreographers, and of course lots of movements from several different styles of dance. Dance is a performing art and will require active participation every single day. At the end of each semester, we will have a performance for families to see what we have been learning!
You will need to have the following supplies for dance:
- 1. Athletic wear of some kind
- (I suggest leggings or athletic shorts and a t-shirt or tank top)
- 2.A composition notebook or spiral notebook of some kind for notes/journaling
A Little About Myself...
Ms. Maxwell began dancing at the age of five. She trained at Cary Ballet Conservatory in the styles of ballet, pointe, tap, and jazz. She graduated from Enloe High School in Raleigh before spending a year studying dance at the University of Georgia. After transferring schools, she graduated with a B.A. in Dance Education and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina- Charlotte. She joined the West Millbrook Faculty in October of 2010 and has enjoyed being the dance teacher there ever since. She continues to explore dance by attending the Educators Workshop at the American Dance Festival each summer.
In her spare time, Ms. Maxwell enjoys running and training for long distance races, baking, cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes, and spending time with her friends. She has two fluffy cats named Bailey and Pumpkin.
